Ranch at Rock Creek, Montana

The Ranch at Rock Creek, near Missoula, Montana, offers one of the most exclusive and cosseted ranch and glamping experiences one could ever imagine. A working cattle ranch, the authenticity of the place is palpable (and it doesn’t hurt that the staff of cowgirls and cowboys are downright gorgeous.) From cattle herding and horseback riding to hiking and fly-fishing, plus a ropes course, sunrise yoga and clay shooting in between, there’s a full bounty of outdoors activities to enjoy under Montana’s famous Big Sky. Less sporty types need not hesitate, for they will be just fine. Whether it be luxuriating in the intimate spa, bowling and imbibing in the cowboy-tailored funhouse, the Silver Dollar Saloon, or shopping the fashionable wares at the Mercantile, there’s plenty of indoor entertainment. Regardless of activity level, all guests will delight in the true culinary fare, which highlights local pork (the best bacon there ever was), Elk and beef, and a thoughtful interior design featuring deliciously comfortable beds, soft navajo-style rugs and hide-covered furnishings. In fact, there’s little not to rave about at the Ranch at Rock Creek, least of all the gorgeous scenery, including four miles of a private, trout-filled gurgling creek. I was lucky enough to visit during fall and enjoy the memorable creekside canvas tents, but I’m already dreaming of my winter return.
