Monteverdi, Tuscany, Italy

At the top of a hill, affording sweeping views of Tuscany’s stunning Val d’Orcia below, Monteverdi Tuscany is not just a boutique hotel and villa property, but rather an intimate part of a small, ancient Borgo complete with consecrated chapel and an Etruscan ruin. If authenticity is what you’re after, look no further than Monteverdi, where the original stone structures have been thoughtfully restored and carefully designed by a Roman interiors guru. Guest comforts have been optimally considered, from the in-room features like copper tubs, hammam showers and four-poster beds to the tucked-away spa with not one, but two, outdoor stone soaking tubs and an underground gym with large glass french doors. To say nothing of the food and wine would be overlooking the heart of the operation. Resident chef Giancarla is that rare find, whose passion for her craft is evident with each dish. A cooking class with her is a must-do, as is a cozy evening at the Enoteca with its state-of-the-art wine tasting apparatus allowing for rare glasses of some of the finest Brunello. As someone who loves Tuscany, and the Val d’Orcia, I can happily report that I can’t wait to return to Monteverdi.
